Our Community
The Barrow & Bench organisation plays an active part in the community by supporting a variety of events, organisations and individuals. Some examples are set out below.
Management is actively involved in and supports:
- Establishment of two Trust Banks via Opportunity International, one in West Timor and the other in the Bali area. These Trust Banks provide micro finance to local small business enterprises
- Staff contribute voluntarilly to micro financing small business enterprises through Opportunity International in South East Asia
- As an active Charter member of the local Rotary Club
- Supports various aspects of the Uniting Church, including youth involved in Big Week Out
- Supports the development of young school students through Youth Opportunities
- Helped establish the Mobile Maintenance Ministry with St Matthews Church
- Assists with a community based programme for removal of graffiti through the Burnside City Council
- Gives assistance to Toy Making for Charities with the Burnside Men's Group making toys for East Timor.
Some international projects include:
- Setting up a Trust Bank in West Timor to give micro finance to local small business people.
- Supporting a young person on an Australian Volunteers International trip to South America
- Supporting two children through World Vision
Many organisations are supported with donations, or allowing them to use our premises for fund raising etc
